Cooperative Education & Internship Program
Most college students graduate hoping to find a job. At UW-Stout, the job often finds you before you graduate.
For more than 40 years, UW-Stout's award-winning Cooperative Education & Internship Program (CEIP) has been putting the polytechnic mission into action by seamlessly integrating classroom learning with paid, professional work experience.
Nearly 30,000 students have shaped their careers through the program, and more than a third of Stout graduates accept full-time positions with their internship employer before they cross the stage.
CEIP connects students to more than 600 employer-hosted job sites across more than 25 states and across the world—from Fortune 500 manufacturers and technology firms to healthcare systems, nonprofits, and government agencies. Recent placements include Tesla, Mayo Clinic Health System, Harley Davidson, 3M, Microsoft, IBM, Kohler, Boston Scientific, General Motors, Honda, and so many more.
Whether you pursue a co-op placement—earning full-time pay while maintaining full-time student status—or a field experience internship tailored to your program, every placement is faculty-mentored and academically integrated, ensuring the work you do on your degree applies directly to your work in the field.
The results speak for themselves. Site supervisors rate UW-Stout students at or above proficiency in communication, critical thinking, professionalism, teamwork, and technology—outperforming national averages across career-readiness benchmarks.
And 96% of students report the experience elevated their professional skills and gave them a competitive advantage entering the workforce.
At Stout, an internship isn't "a nice experience." It's built into how you earn your degree.
